Art that Heals, Honors, and Highlights What Matters Most
Art Therapy

Art therapy is arts based psychotherapy used to express, process, and discover meaning behind our thoughts, emotions, feelings and behaviors through various media. Art therapy is an experiential process that utilizes many art forms and materials. Art therapy is for anyone who is willing to explore their emotions in a non-traditional way. Art therapy is for anyone.

My Role
My role as an art therapist is to be a guiding light that assists people in finding answers that are most congruent with their values through creative exploration with integrity, care, compassion and authenticity.

As a Black woman, I believe in living a bold, confident and unashamed life. Our values and beliefs shape who we are and define how we show up for ourselves and in the world. We are humans with stories and emotions and feelings.

Art therapy allows us to make mind and body connections to foster personal growth in a unique way that can be empowering.
With full engagement from those I serve, I believe internal healing, and meaning can be discovered by retraining the way we think about ourselves and experiences, assess childhood trauma, and develop positive thought patterns. This can be achieved through various therapeutic approaches that I believe in such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Existential Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Solution Focused and Narrative Therapy. These approaches are integral to my practice as they guide the therapeutic process to best serve the client with strategy and intention.
Why I chose art therapy?
I chose this path because I enjoy learning about people and assisting them in creating meaning from their experienced stories. Art making has been a reflective, kinesthetic, and communicative tool that I have loved since I was a child. When I discovered art therapy as a profession, I was assured that there existed an avenue where I could utilize my natural skills of creativity, and my passion to support others in a unique way.
My goals as an art therapist
My goal is to serve youth, and adults through community and private practice. My areas of influence are wellness, assessments, therapy and social-activism. I am drawn to support people with low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief, divorce, mothering, womanhood, and life transitions. I enjoy individual sessions and facilitating groups where I utilize unique forms of journaling which provides opportunities to reflect and find meaning. I value my personal journey of resilience, growth, and self-love which inherently has become a foundation of my belief system and the ways in which my practice is informed.
It is my hope to introduce art therapy to those who would not likely seek professional mental and emotional support. I honor and cultivate healthy therapeutic relationships by creating a safe, non-judgemental space, acknowledging the needs of the group and/or individual, and providing tools to foster positive change.
